Anatomy and Proprioceptive Physiology of the Foot and Ankle
Anatomia e fisiologia propriocettiva del piede e della caviglia

Anatomy and Proprioceptive Physiology of the Foot and Ankle

The foot and ankle are complex and highly specialised structures, fundamental not only for movement but also for the collection and processing of sensory and proprioceptive information that guides posture, balance, and gait.

This live-streamed functional anatomy course, led by Prof. Frank Willard, offers an in-depth training programme dedicated to the study of the anatomy, innervation, and proprioceptive physiology of the foot and ankle, with an integrated approach to structure and function.

Over three days of training, the course takes participants from a detailed understanding of anatomical components to an analysis of the mechanisms of sensory information integration within the central nervous system, offering a clear and practical perspective on the role of the foot in motor control.

A unique training opportunity to understand the foot as a key sensory system in the organisation of human movement

Course objectives

  • To deepen understanding of the functional anatomy of the foot and ankle
  • To understand the role of tendons, ligaments, and bone architecture in proprioceptive function
  • To analyse peripheral innervation and the main neuropathies of the foot and ankle
  • To explore the processes of proprioceptive integration in the central nervous system
  • To connect sensory information from the foot with the mechanisms of posture, balance, and walking
