Fluids, Respiration, and the Diaphragms: A Maximalist Approach in Osteopathy
Fluidi respirazione e diaframmi - Approccio massimalista in osteopatia

Fluids, Respiration, and the Diaphragms: A Maximalist Approach in Osteopathy

Who is this course for?

Anyone who is interested in exploring the maximalist approaches in osteopathy based on the axiom “supporting self-regulation by giving the body back to itself”. This represents the idea of managing complex patients by sequencing treatments for maximizing physiological effects.

Maximalist approaches have different clinical expressions or signatures, often represented through Zink´s respiratory and circulatory model of care centering on respiratory efficacy and the hydrodynamics of fluid flow; Wernham´s mechanical and physiological integration using total body adjustment of general osteopathic treatment; or Becker´s “diagnostic touch” sequence facilitating the body´s self-regulation and self-healing trough natural forces.

What is covered in this course?

The introduction will discuss the philosophy and principles of the maximalist approaches, looking at similarities and differences. It will then proceed to explore the work of J. Gordon Zink and the respiratory and circulatory model of care, making sense of the diaphragms of the body and their role as a respiratory and circulatory interface.

This will lay the foundation of building a sequence of assessment and treatment utilizing the maximalist principles and a variety of direct, indirect and combines technique with the physiological aim of moving tissue fluids in the body.

What will the participants bring back from this course?

A efficient and time-effective treatment routine on patients using the maximalist principles to improve respiratory and circulatory dynamics in the body. This is also beneficial for biomechanical and postural effects, as well as neurological effects.

The participants will after the course also have a clear understanding of how this can be integrated with other osteopathic ways of working with the patients, e.g. cranial, fascial and visceral.
