Minimalist Approaches in Osteopathy

Find It, Fix It and Leave It Alone

Who is this course for?

Anyone who is interested in learning more about and understanding the significance of Still´s axiom “Find it, fix it and leave it alone”. This represents the idea that 80% of the osteopathic treatment is the osteopathic assessment of the patient to highlight and identify the most significant dysfunctions in the different body systems at any given time.

These dysfunctions constitute the individual “lesion chain” involving the parietal, visceral and neuromeningeal systems, linked together through the mechanical, neurological, and fluid links. The appraisal of the “lesion chain” enables the prioritization of dysfunctions in a hierarchy, which is the order of osteopathic manipulative treatment of the patient based on the principle minimal input with maximal effect.

What is covered in the course?

The introduction part will cover the principles of minimalist approaches and different views of dysfunction according to various osteopathic models and paradigms. The concept of mechanical links, neurological links and fluid links will be discussed, and methods of analysis and appraisals using the link-models.

The practical part will detail the global osteopathic assessment approach evaluating the patient in the standing, seated, supine and prone positions, to highlight the potential significant dysfunctions and the various body systems. Using the link-models, the findings will be appraised, and treatments demonstrated to illustrate the use of minimalist approaches in osteopathic practice.

What will the participants bring home from this course?

A clear idea of how to use a global osteopathic assessment routine on patients to highlight the significant dysfunctions, to link them together in a individual “lesion chain” and sequence them for treatment according to their hierarchy.
